WORLD HISTORY: AFTERMATH OF FIRST WORLD WAR – Part 4

REASONS FOR GERMAN OBJECTION TO TREATY OF VERSAILLES

  • It was a dictated peace as Germans were not allowed into the discussions at Versailles.
  • Many of the provisions of the treaty were not based on Wilson’s 14 points.
  • Germans lost territory in Europe, for instance, West Prussia.
  • Germany lost colonies in Africa.
  • The disarmament clause was deeply resented, particularly limitation of 100,000 troops which were not enough to keep law and order.
  • Germany objected to being saddled with the entire blame for the outbreak of war imposed by The War Guilt clause.
  • Amount of reparations decided to be paid by Germany was far too high.
