Q1. “Article 14 prohibits class legislation but permits reasonable classification.” Discuss in detail. (10)

Answer Approach:

Introduction: Discuss in brief about the twin aspects of Article 14 and the common aim of both the aspects. 

• Main body: Define in brief what class legislation is and explain why It is prohibited with an illustration. Discuss what type of classification will be considered to be reasonable and not a class legislation. Throw light on the rationale behind the statement. Explain the test of reasonable classification. Discuss 1-2 case laws to support the principle of reasonable classification.

• Conclusion: Conclude by linking the doctrine of classification with the doctrine of  arbitrariness as observed by Supreme Court.
