WORLD HISTORY: SECOND WORLD WAR – Part 1
REASONS FOR OUTBREAK OF WAR
- The Versailles Treaty filled Germany with desire for revenge.
- The League of Nations and the idea of collective security failed to secure general disarmament and to control potential aggressors.
- The world economic crisis helped Hitler come to power.
- Britain and France followed the policy of appeasement instead of taking firm stand to to check Germany.
- The USSR made war inevitable by signing the non-aggression pact with Germany.
- Though Hitler does not seem to intend a world war, he was responsible for the war because he failed to realize that the attack on Poland was as step too far.
