mission statement

In support of economic growth, energy access and security, and an urgent and lasting global response to climate change, our mission is to accelerate the pace of clean energy innovation to achieve performance breakthroughs and cost reductions to provide widely affordable and reliable clean energy solutions that will revolutionize energy systems throughout the world over the next two decades and beyond.

Central components of MI include the following:

  • Government Leadership
  • Private Sector Participation via Breakthrough Energy Coalition ( a group of high net worth individuals around the globe, spearheaded by Bill gates.)
  • Implementation and Information Sharing.

Member countries of Mission Innovation – 20 countries including India

European Union joined as a 21st member of Mission Innovation.

( Members like Germany, France, Denmark – of EU are also individually represented at IM )

The long-term goal of zero net greenhouse gas emissions — one of the main goals of the 2°C scenario — in the second half of this century will require considerable technological innovation and funding – Hence IM is believed to bolster the efforts in this regard.
